Muir wants industry code for car repair
Car owners will be forced to get their vehicles serviced exclusively through dealer networks unless mandatory changes are made, Senator Ricky Muir says.
The Motoring Enthusiast Party MP wants to ensure consumers can keep choosing their preferred car repairer.
"Car companies are restricting access to vital repair and service data from all workshops outside their dealership networks," he said.
On Wednesday, Senator Muir will announce details of his plan for an industry code on car repair, which is worth almost $23 billion each year.
"Just as happened in America and Europe, the car companies need government intervention to make them to do the right thing for their captured consumers," he said.
"It seems they think once you own the car, you have to give up some basic consumer rights - especially consumer choice."
