More fines for illegal Melb pub demolition

The developers who illegally demolished a historical Melbourne pub have been fined by the environmental watchdog again.

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a $7773 fine to the developers of the Corkman Irish Pub after they failed to meet a deadline to provide a compliance report.

The 160-year-old Carlton pub was knocked down without a permit in October 2016.

The EPA issued the owners with a notice that same month to install adequate signage warning asbestos was present, cover the debris, control sediment run off and get qualified consultants to make an asbestos management plan.

EPA metro manager Dan Hunt says the company had until November 23 to provide its report, but there was not correspondence until December 22 and not all the requirements were met.

"Subsequently, a $7773 penalty infringement notice was issued," he said.

"Since the incident in October last year, EPA has issued more than $31,000 in fines to the two companies owned by these directors that are linked to the Corkman pub incident.

"It also continues to investigate potential breaches of the Environment Protection Act."
