Another cost of scrapping the proposed East West Link has emerged, with almost $600,000 paid by the Victorian government for legal and financial advice.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the $595,293.15 in fees comes in addition to the $339 million drawn down by the consortium that was to build the scrapped tollway, and $81 million to establish a line of credit, since transferred to the Melbourne Metro rail project.

"There are several hundred thousand dollars worth of legal advice, as you would expect, to try and mitigate the ongoing liability, which at one point might have been more than a billion dollars," Mr Andrews has told a budget estimates hearing.
