Fire tears through Melbourne factory

More than 50 firefighters have tackled a large blaze that engulfed in Melbourne’s south-east this afternoon.

Emergency crews were first called to the fire at the single-storey factory located on Bond Street and Boundary Road in Mordialloc about 5pm.

Aerial appliances were used to attack the blaze from multiple sides at the 80x40 metre site, with the fire brought under control about an hour later, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) said in a statement.

A Watch and Act community message has now been lifted for people in the area, after being triggered from the vast amounts of smoke pouring from the blaze.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
