Monash Freeway: Truck fire triggers traffic chaos

A truck fire has triggered traffic chaos on the Monash Freeway this morning.

Images show flames and smoke billowing from the large vehicle on the freeway at Warrigal Road about 8am.

MFB Crews have controlled the fire but remain on the scene, with a crane being used to unload goods from the burnt-out truck. 

All outbound lanes of the Monash have now been re-opened. 

"Outbound traffic remains slow from Burke Road, though should ease rapidly," VicRoads said in an updated statement.

Route 72 trams were earlier affected, Yarra Trams tweeted.

The cause of the blaze remains unclear.
