Explosions send sparks flying in Melbourne metro carriage

Passengers screamed and ducked for safety after explosions cracked through a metro train carriage in Melbourne yesterday.
Several loud, popping blasts were heard in the carriage on the Craigieburn line at North Melbourne at about 6pm.

Video of the incident showed sparks flashing through the compartment, while smoke filled the air.
Passengers were heard exclaiming and screaming as they sought shelter.
Metro Trains said the incident was due to an “overhead power fault”, and warned that trains might hold at platforms or between platforms for an extended period.
People on the train where the explosions were filmed were reportedly stranded for about an hour.
On X, Metro Trains later marked the incident as resolved but warned minor delays could be expected through the later evening.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
