Melbourne teen pleads guilty to 'shocking' attack on off-duty policeman

The wife of a police officer stabbed in the face during a horrific Melbourne home invasion has said she'll “never forgive” the teenage thug.

Shereen Yeoman told a County Court Judge the night Jade Hunia broke into the family home, before stabbing her husband Daniel Yeoman in the face, was the “scariest night of her life”.

"I feel scared all the time,"  Ms Yeoman said while wiping away tears.

"I don't trust anyone anymore... I'll never forgive him for doing this to our family."

It was 1.50am on the 19th of November last year, when Hunia, then 19, forced his way into the family home.

He shoved past a screaming Ms Yeoman, and demanded keys to the couple's brand new car.

When Mr Yeoman tried to reason with him, the teen grabbed a steak knife from the family's kitchen, and stabbed the off-duty police officer between the eyes.

The injuries to the Senior Constable's face were so deep they left permanent scarring and nerve damage, fractured his eye socket and broke his cheekbone.

Today, nine months on, the husband and wife read out victim impact statements in court.

Mr Yeoman told the court he feels ashamed he couldn't protect his family better.

Ms told the court she's now been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and said her children, who were home at the time, still have nightmares.

Hunia has pleaded guilty to the crime, despite stating he can't remember it.

His lawyer said he was intoxicated at the time.

Judge Mark Dean warned Hunia to expect a lengthy jail term, describing the attack as "shocking."

The case will be back in court in September.
