Aiia Maarsarwe's killer and rapist due back in court

Medical reports about the rapist and killer of international student Aiia Maasarwe are expected to be tendered to a Melbourne court.

Codey Herrmann pleaded guilty in June to murdering Maasarwe, whose body was found near a tram stop at Bundoora in the city's north on January 16.

Herrmann, aged 20 when he was arrested in January, is set to face the Supreme Court of Victoria today for a plea hearing.

Maasarwe, a Palestinian Arab of Israeli citizenship, had been in Melbourne only a short time and was speaking by phone to her overseas-based sister, Noor, when attacked while on her way home from a comedy club.

Herrmann was meant to appear in court in late June for an administrative matter but did not, with his lawyers saying they would be ready by October 1.

At a previous hearing, Herrmann's lawyer Tim Marsh told the court there could be a significant amount of material presented on his client's behalf, including a neuropsychiatric report and others on culture and background.
