Charges over Vic carjacking spree

A Melbourne man has been charged with allegedly stealing two cars, trying to steal another three and making threats to kill a woman.

The 39-year-old Westmeadows man will face the Melbourne Magistrate's Court on Monday charged with numerous offences including the car thefts and also false imprisonment, conduct endangering life and extortion.

He was charged on Monday following an alleged carjacking spree on Sunday in the CBD and several inner southern suburbs.

The man is accused of making two unsuccessful attempts to steal cars from their owners in the CBD before allegedly getting behind the wheel of a third car, which he allegedly crashed into three other cars.

Police allege he threatened to kill a woman in Glen Iris when stole her car.
