Melbourne Lord Mayor Doyle re-elected

Melbourne's Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has been returned for a record third time.

Mr Doyle and his deputy Arron Wood received 44.62 per cent of first preference votes.

The Greens team of Olivia Ball and Roxane Ingleton were their closest rivals at 21.27 per cent of first preferences.

"Very humbled and grateful that I have been reelected (sic) as Lord Mayor of the city I love. New team, but have lost some great contributors," the former state Liberal Party leader tweeted on Saturday.

Three of Mr Doyle's councillor candidates were also elected: Kevin Louey, Nicholas Reece and Tessa Sullivan.

Melbourne has also elected its first indigenous candidate, Brooke Wandin.
