Three floors of Melbourne's Epworth Freemasons Hospital have been flooded after a water leak, and may need to be evacuated.

The cause of the leak is not yet known, and patients are being moved to other areas of the hospital.

Epworth media manager Colleen Coghlan said crews were investigating the cause of today's leak.

"There is a large water leak on the third floor of the building," Ms Coghlan said.

"But we are still trying to idenfity the source of the leak."

Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokeswoman Meg Rayner said 11 trucks are at the scene after being alerted at 3.19pm.
