Bail extended for Melb hit-run accused

A man charged over the hit and run of a teenage cyclist, leaving the youth fighting for life, has had his bail extended by a Melbourne court.

Footscray man Kaifur Rashed, 25, made a brief appearance in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday where his bail was extended until February.

Police will allege Rashed was behind the wheel of a Jeep that hit Ben Tyrrell, 18, near the intersection of Dryburgh Street and Dynon Road in West Melbourne in the early hours of November 18.

He has been charged with three offences, including failing to stop, failing to render assistance and failing to report to police.

Mr Tyrrell was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

On Tuesday he was in hospital in a serious condition.

Rashed will return to court on February 22 for committal mention.
