Motorcyclist, 31, injured after CBD crash
A 31-year-old motorcyclist is in hospital after a crash in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.
Emergency services were called to Elizabeth and Lonsdale streets about 9.15am after the rider came off his bike.
Police said shortly before the crash they were intercepting another vehicle when they spotted the motorcyclist wearing what appeared to be a “non-compliant helmet”.
Officers performed a U-turn to take a further look, when the rider accelerated away and then crashed.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with a serious head injury, but his condition has since improved to stable.
Investigations are ongoing.
The intersection of Elizabeth and Lonsdale streets was closed to traffic for a number of hours as a result of the incident.
