Woman carjacked at knifepoint outside Melbourne laundrette

Good Samaritans stepped in to save a woman held at knifepoint outside a laundromat in Melbourne.

The 16-year-old accused of trying to carjack the woman using a machete was swiftly arrested but the incident has shaken locals.

A woman going about her weekly tasks parked to do a load of washing when a machete was held to her throat in Delahey, in Melbourne’s north-west.

She was allegedly ambushed by a hooded teenager trying to steal her car.

With her basket still in hand the 44-year-old woman ran to safety as two Good Samaritans tried to get a hold of the offender.

The teen was spooked and gave up and ran off into the darkness.

Boy, 16, granted bail after four teens charged over ambush on Melbourne street

The offender had been lurking in the shadows at a nearby bus stop before the alleged attack at Delahey Village just before 7.30pm on Friday, in front of dozens of shoppers and diners.

One local man said it was “shocking” and a woman said it was “so scary”.

Police arrived and spoke to the victim who wasn’t physically injured.

The teenager ran off along Kings Road where he was quickly arrested by police and charged with attempted aggravated carjacking. 

The 16-year-old was due to face a Children’s Court today.
