Melb shopping centre threat cleared

Shoppers have returned to a north Melbourne shopping centre after police cleared a bomb scare.

Police evacuated the Northland Shopping Centre on Thursday afternoon and performed a "safety check" on a department store.

The bomb response unit was called to the Preston centre before the threat was cleared.
