The City of Melbourne's first indigenous councillor may have been ineligible to run due to an incorrect address on her nomination.

The Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate is reviewing a candidate's eligibility for the City of Melbourne, chief municipal inspector David Wolf said in a statement.

"The inspectorate cannot make any further comment on the matter while inquiries are underway but in consideration of the implications, the inquiries are a priority," he said.
