McGowan says Indi likes independents

Independent Indi MP Cathy McGowan says she has a good working relationship with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and they have agreed to stay in contact over the next few days as the election count continues.

Mr Turnbull called to congratulate her on Sunday after she retained the hotly contested regional Victorian seat of Indi by defeating Liberal Sophie Mirabella, again.

"We have agreed to stay in contact over the next few days as the national situation becomes clearer," Ms McGowan said in a statement that says the vote shows Indi likes independents and she wants to be a strong advocate for regional infrastructure.
