Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan vows 'to get to the bottom' of McCrae landslide

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has vowed to "get to the bottom of what happened" in McCrae after a landslide destroyed a luxury house last month.

The bayfront house on the Morning Peninsula was reduced to a pile of rubble after it slid several metres down a cliff, with a council worker forced to leap off a balcony as it collapsed beneath him.

The government today confirmed they would establish a board of inquiry into the cause of the landslide.

The three-storey home was completely demolished in the landslide on January 14.

The home was unoccupied and was deemed unsafe days earlier following another landslip.

A total of 20 homes were blocked off following the landslide, with residents warned more slips could be on the way.

The inquiry will be asked to determine the cause of the landslide, what happened and whether it could have been avoided.

It will also determine if preventative measures were taken to mitigate the risks following previous landslides.

"We need to get to the bottom of what has happened here because too many people have been let down and too many questions remain unanswered," Allan said.

The final report on the incident will be delivered later this year.
