Man stabbed to death at Melbourne apartment block

Residents of an apartment block in Melbourne's north-west have made a grim discovery after a man was stabbed to death outside the building.

The 44-year-old man's body was found in the car park of the Ascot Vale complex at about 6:10pm yesterday.

Paramedics tried to revive him at the scene but their attempts were unsuccessful.

The victim's niece arrived a short time later and collapsed with grief.

Forensic investigators have dusted the area for prints and members of the Homicide Squad have been doorknocking residents.

Police have not revealed a motive or made any arrests.
