Elderly man stabbed to death at Ballarat

An elderly man has been stabbed to death at a house near Ballarat.

Emergency services were called to a Langstaffe Drive property in Wendouree around 1.30am on Wednesday.

Ambulance Victoria says the man was already dead when they arrived.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the property and remains in custody.

He was known to the 72-year-old victim.

Both men are Wendouree residents.

Locals have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness over the death.

"This is very sad. Sending my condolences to the deceased family. Thinking of you at this sad time," one posted.

"And this is why I wanna move away from here," said another.
