Man shot by police in regional Victoria

A man has been shot by police in regional Victoria after he allegedly threatened officers with a gun.

The 59-year-old was shot in the arm in Cornishtown, about 40km west of Wodonga, on Sunday night, police say.

Officers were initially called to the rural property in relation to a domestic violence incident involving an axe and firearm.

The man has been taken by road to Albury Base Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police have set up a road block on Chiltern-Rutherglen Road and established a crime scene at the property with the assistance of the SES.

No one else was injured during the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
