Man in court over robbery, Vic cop assault

A man will appear in a Victorian court charged over a botched armed robbery and alleged police assault.

Police say a man armed with a weapon bailed up two people in the Geelong suburb of Norlane about 7am on Thursday, then challenged a police officer who tried to arrest him.

He was remanded in custody overnight on charges including attempted armed robbery, assault with a weapon and assaulting a police officer.

The man will appear in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday.
