Passenger killed in crash after driver swerves to avoid kangaroo in Glenalbyn, Victoria

A Victorian driver who was swerving to miss a kangaroo has hit a tree and killed her front seat passenger.

Police believe the 39-year-old female driver was trying to avoid a kangaroo when she ran off the road in Glenalbyn, near Bendigo, on Monday morning.

The man sitting in the front seat, who is yet to be formally identified, was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene.

Emergency services are on the scene of a single car collision in Glenalbyn where a man in his 30s has lost his life. 

Police believe the Ford sedan was travelling towards Inglewood on the Calder Highway when it swerved to miss a kangaroo and collided with a tree at about 5.30am. 

The 39-year-old female driver has been taken to Bendigo hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The male front seat passenger, who is yet to be formally identified, was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene.
