Man dies in Vic car and truck smash

A man has died after a truck and car collided in rural Victoria.

The vehicles were travelling along Maintongoon Road at Bonnie Doon in the state's northeast about 12.30pm on Thursday when they crashed, police say.

The male driver of the car died at the scene but the truck driver and passenger were not injured.

The connecting Maroondah Highway remained closed into the afternoon, after fuel spilled on to the road.

Police are investigating what caused the crash.
