Five dead in 10 hours on Victorian roads

Five people have been killed in less than 10 hours on Victoria's roads, with a man dead from a crash on the Mornington Peninsula.

The man's car hit a tree on private property in Hunts Road in Tuerong, about 5.30am, and he died at the scene.

A man who was a passenger in the car has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are investigating the crash, but it will not be included on the road toll because it happened on private property.

Earlier two men and a woman died in a collision between a truck and a car in Burrumbeet near Ballarat shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Police say the male driver of the car and a male passenger died at the scene after the crash.

Two female passengers were airlifted to hospital where one of them later died and the other remains in a critical condition.

The truck driver was not injured and is assisting police with their inquiries.

And about 8pm on Friday, a man aged in his 20s died following a car crash in Hopetoun in Victoria's west.

Police say he lost control of his car and it crashed into a tree by the Henty Highway.
