Man charged over violent Vic home invasion

A man will appear in a Victorian court on Thursday charged over a violent home invasion and armed robbery that left an elderly man with brain damage.

A 40-year-old man was arrested following a raid at a house in Churchill, in Victoria's Latrobe Valley, on Wednesday in relation to the burglary at nearby Delburn on January 11 last year.

On the first anniversary of the crime two weeks ago, police announced a $350,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the vicious aggravated burglary.

Two men wearing balaclavas forced entry through a window as the couple, an 80-year-old man and his wife, 75, slept.

The man suffered significant brain damage during the unprovoked attack and the woman suffered minor injuries.

A quantity of cash and jewellery were stolen.

The Churchill man was charged with aggravated burglary, armed robbery, intentionally causing serious injury, false imprisonment and 131 counts of burglary and associated thefts.

He was remanded to appear in the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court in Morwell on Thursday.
