A Melbourne man accused of binding, gagging and robbing a 70-year-old man of his World War II medals has been remanded in custody.

Howard Bux faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with false imprisonment, robbery and assault-related offences over the attack in Reservoir earlier this month.

Documents filed with the court allege Bux, 49, knew the victim was inside the property when he broke in to steal things.

Bux allegedly detained the man and stole two World War II air force medals, a watch, clothing, DVD player, mobile phones, about $370 cash and food as well as a bank book and identification cards, the documents say.

He is also accused of destroying a $100 landline handset, which belonged to the alleged victim.

Bux did not apply for bail on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to reappear in court on November 10.
