Murder charge over Noel Ingham death

A man has been charged with murdering a Tasmanian man whose body was found in remote bushland, as police investigate whether anyone else was involved.

Police had been looking for Noel Joseph Ingham for more than a month before a tip-off led them on November 23 to bushland in Dulverton where they found his car and body nearby.

The 58-year-old had not been seen since he visited his doctor on July 22 but was not reported as missing until October 4.

At the time, police described him as a quiet man who had occasional visitors after moving to Tasmania a few years ago.

They also said he had children and siblings living in Queensland.

Police charged a 51-year-old East Devonport man with murder on Thursday after a series of searches on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Kim Steven said the man, one of a number of persons of interest throughout the investigation, was known to both Mr Ingham and police.

He would not comment on whether the man had been staying at Mr Ingham's house.

He said it was "too early to say" if anyone else would be charged in relation to the murder.

The investigation will continue for another four to six weeks, he said.

"There is a number of lines of inquiry that (we) will continue to follow up, if there are any further charges we will certainly let you know," Det Insp Steven told reporters.

The accused man will appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
