A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was shot in the leg with his own gun during a struggle in a Melbourne hotel room.
Police were called to a man self harming at Sleep and Go hotel on Bell Street in Preston last night.
During a struggle, the officer's gun was fired and the officer was shot in the leg, police said.
The officer and the man were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Early this morning police said in a statement that a 42-year-old Preston man had been charged with attempted murder and causing serious injury following a firearms incident.
The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court later today.
