Man charged after elderly Melbourne woman hit by stolen car

A man has been charged after allegedly hitting an elderly woman with a stolen car in Melbourne.

Police say 29-year-old Alan McDevitt was driving a stolen Honda Civic at the intersection of South Street and Jensen Street in Hadfield on Sunday night when he hit a 74-year-old woman.

The woman, from Hadfield, was rushed to Royal Melbourne hospital with life-threatening injuries where she remains.

McDevitt, from Glenroy, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with negligently causing serious injury, driving in a manner dangerous causing injury and theft of a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail by an afterhours bail justice and is set to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
