Clothes tied to alleged Vic murder burned

A man says he was handed two bags of Bandidos clothing and told to get rid of them the day after a Melbourne man was allegedly murdered.

Michael Strike's body was found on the side of the road opposite Keilor Cemetery on May 25 last year.

Luke Paul Maybus, 28, and John Walker, 33, are accused of murdering him one day earlier.

A third man, Joseph Girgis, 41, is charged with being an accessory to murder.

Witness Tym Livett went to stay with Girgis in April 2014 after being released from prison, he told the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He made a statement to police several months later, alleging Girgis and Walker came to his room in the early hours of May 25 last year.

Mr Livett, who admitted he had been using ice at the time, said there was a conversation about something that had happened at the Bandidos' Brunswick clubhouse.

"It appears that Lukey did the final blow," his statement to police, also partially read in court, says.

"Johnny told me he assaulted the bloke. Joe never said he touched the bloke at all."

Walker left the conversation at some stage, but Mr Livett said he wasn't sure precisely when.

He told police Walker wasn't there when Girgis allegedly handed him a bag of black shirts "with the Bandido Mexican stuff on it" and asked him to burn them.

Mr Livett, in a second statement, also claimed Girgis gave him another bag of Bandidos clothing later that morning.

He says he took that bag to Carrum Downs, ripped it open, and burned the clothes on the ground.

Mr Livett on Tuesday said he had trouble recalling dates and exact conversations when he made his first statement in January 2015.

He made that statement after police, investigating Mr Strike's alleged murder, approached him while he was in custody for breaching a drug treatment order and other offences.

Mr Livett co-operated while knowing he could be facing a long jail sentence, the court heard.

The committal hearing over Mr Strike's death continues.
