Man bashed, glasses smashed on Melb tram

A commuter who confronted a verbally abusive tram passenger in Melbourne has had his glasses smashed for his efforts.

Police say the victim confronted the passenger - a man in his 20s who was taking up two seats and yelling violent verbal threats - on a tram in North Melbourne on Sunday.

The victim was subsequently assaulted, with his glasses deliberately broken, and required hospital treatment.
