Man arrested after Vic serious assault

Police have finally closed in on the man who allegedly beat a US cinematographer on a Melbourne street and left him with life-threatening brain injuries.

Quentin Peel, 32, was beaten in Carlton on January 17 as he walked home from a night out.

The American, who was working in Melbourne, was left unconscious on the footpath after being punched in the face.

Police spotted the 38-year-old man accused of the attack on Thursday morning in Williamstown, but he got into a car and drove off.

The car was found dumped a short time later.

The man was arrested nearby and charged with evading police, drug offences and intentionally causing serious injury.

He has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on October 7.
