Two women in the Melbourne suburb of Hoppers Crossing were sexually assaulted on Thursday and Friday mornings, with police investigating if the two incidents are linked.

The first took place when a man armed with a knife knocked on the door of a home on Whitsunday Drive about11.30am on Thursday.

It’s understood he forced his way into the home before allegedly sexually assaulting the female resident inside the property.

The alleged victim and her husband were too scared to speak on camera on Friday and were looking to find a new home after their ordeal.

On Friday morning a second woman was allegedly stalked going into a primary school building on Langridge Street before she was attacked about 7am.

A 39-year-old homeless man was taken into custody in Hoppers Crossing about 11.40am on Friday and was being interviewed by detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad, but no charges had been laid.

Another crime scene in the area was established after a possible burglary on nearby Branton Road on Thursday night, with the homeowner reporting a number of items had been disturbed.

As a result, there has been an increased police presence in the suburb, and residents have been urged to check CCTV and dash cams for any relevant footage.
