Guests at prestigious Melbourne hotel 'struck with salmonella'

Six people have been admitted to hospital and at least 28 more have become ill following a reported salmonella outbreak at the Langham Hotel in Southbank.

Health officials have reportedly tracked down 66 people who attended the Langham Hotel's luxury high tea on July 11 and 12, with at least 34 confirmed cases, the Herald Sun reports.

The Department of Health confirmed six people were affected so badly they were admitted to hospital, however the full details of their condition had not been released.

The department's Public Health Officer Dr Brett Sutton reportedly said the Langham "fully cooperated" with the investigation after the first affected person came forward on July 12.

The Langham Hotel's Melbourne managing director said the hotel was contacting guests and trying to determine the cause.
