The verdict is in: the Killers killed their AFL Grand Final performance.

The American rockers charmed footy fans and the internet alike with a rocking performance before opening bounce in Saturday's decider between Richmond and Adelaide.

The set, which featured a mosh pit, included a cover of homegrown Midnight Oil's classic Forgotten Years and ended with the band's hit Mr Brightside.

The Twitterverse lit up with approval.

Brett Miller tweeted: "You guys absolutely nailed it. Best performance I've seen at the @AFL grand final".

Lauren Murphy added: "AFL Grand Final pre-game entertainment amazing. The Killers!!! Rocking the MCG."

Ezra Allen quipped: "Why have they put the Football on during this @thekillers concert?"

The pre-match entertainment was a far cry from 2011 when US rocker Meat Loaf was panned for singing out of tune, blaming the acoustics, lack of sound check and his ear piece.
