Police continue hunt for Victorian cab driver's killer

The killer of a Melbourne taxi driver who died after a late-night attack is still at large.

The 31-year-old man, who relatives identified as Mohamud Hussein, finished his shift on Wednesday night and was walking to his Fitzroy home when he was reportedly stabbed around 11.30pm.

Paramedics and police officers from the nearby Fitzroy Police Station tried to save the cab driver, also known as Mohamud Muktar, but he died at the scene.

Relative Ahmed Goud said the victim came from a large family.

"I'm really shocked, he's a very nice guy, and we are a close family," he told reporters outside Mr Hussein's Fitzroy flat.

Mr Goud said the victim was a hard-working and nice young man.

He said the Somali community would support Mr Hussein's parents.

Police believe the attack may have been random and have called on a man seen running from the scene to contact them.
