Hunt for gunman who shot Vic grandfather

Police have launched an appeal for fresh information as they hunt for the gunman who shot a Melbourne grandfather in the head and chest in country Victoria four months ago.

Kelvin Tennant, 72, thought he was going to die when he was shot three times while riding his motorised bicycle along the Myrtleford-Everton Rail Trail in Everton on February 18 before the gunman fled in a dark-coloured sedan.

Police will set up an information caravan in Myrtleford on Saturday and are appealing for anyone who saw the sedan or a similar car in the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.

"We are setting up the caravan in a friendly environment so people will feel comfortable to come forward and speak to us should they hold information that could assist our investigation," Armed Crime Squad Detective Senior Constable Purdie Long said.

"Any persons not wishing to speak to police on Saturday are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers (on 1800 333 000)."

Cyclists found Mr Tennant, a retired Ringwood teacher, lying on the pavement before he was airlifted to hospital in Melbourne with serious injuries.

The man later told journalists he had expected the gunman to finish him off but felt a "powerful" and "very strong conviction" that God wouldn't let him die.
