Guns a concern for police in regional Vic

Almost 40 guns have been stolen in a regional Victorian city in under two years, and police are concerned about community silence over the thefts.

Victoria Police says the public has offered very little information to help solve gun-related crime in Bendigo, where guns have also been fired in the street and a man went to hospital with a gunshot wound.

"This is a whole-of-community issue and it definitely impacts on our investigations when no one will speak to us," Detective Leading Senior Constable Glen Fisher said in a statement on Monday.

Between 2014 and 2015, almost 40 guns were stolen in the Bendigo area from sheds, houses, shops and caravans and a number of guns have been fired on residential streets, police say.
