Concerned residents are due back in a Melbourne court as they try to halt a $1.6 billion "sky rail" project.

Lower Our Tracks Incorporated is fighting the state government over the construction of an elevated rail track that would remove nine level crossings on the Pakenham-Cranbourne line.

The group is asking the Victorian Supreme Court to review planning processes surrounding the project, saying there's been a lack of consultation and transparency.

A barrister for the government, David Batt QC, will address the court when the case continues on Friday.
