Anthony Albanese is used to fighting conservatives but now he is being backed by Rupert Murdoch.

The front page of the Murdoch-owned The Daily Telegraph trumpets "Save Our Albo" on Wednesday, which the Greens says is a desperate act by the media mogul.

The Grayndler MP was low key about the endorsement but deputy Greens leader Adam Bandt says it shows Labor will never be able to stand up to powerful interests.

"Albo's gone from fighting Tories to having Tories fight for him," he told reporters in Melbourne.

"It tells you everything you need to know about the modern Labor Party if Rupert Murdoch comes out and says 'Vote for Labor'."

Mr Bandt said Mr Murdoch is "desperate" to keep the Greens out of the House of Representatives and is doing everything he can to make that happen, including supporting a member of a party he has previously derided.

Mr Albanese, a former deputy prime minister, has represented Grayndler since 1996.

Labor admits it faces a tough fight to keep the long-time frontbencher in parliament with a Liberal-Greens preference deal.
