Girl recovering after Melbourne hit-run

A teenage girl is recovering after being critically injured in a fatal Melbourne hit-and-run.

The 17-year-old and a male teenage friend were crossing on a green pedestrian light when they were struck by a car at Delahey on Tuesday last week.

The vehicle ran a red light and did not stop, losing a headlight in the crash.

The teenage boy, also 17, later died in hospital.

A Royal Melbourne Hospital spokeswoman said the girl's condition has been downgraded to serious on Monday.

She remains in the intensive care unit.

Police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old man over the hit-and-run, but he was later released without charge.
