Girl dies after head-on Vic road crash

A seven-year-old girl is dead after a head-on crash in Victoria's east which has left six others injured.

The two-car crash happened at Brown Coalmine Road near Yallourn North about 3.30pm on Monday.

A 29-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl, two of the occupants of a Holden Commodore, were airlifted to hospital, police said.

The woman had serious injuries to her ankle, pelvis, chest and neck while the girl died in hospital.

Two other children in the Holden, a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, were taken to the Latrobe Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The three-year-old girl has since been released.

A 49-year-old woman and two 15-year-old boys were in the other car involved in the crash and have also been taken to the Latrobe hospital in a stable condition.

The exact circumstances around the crash have yet to be determined but anyone who saw the incident have been urged to call police.
