Geelong Grammar School targets students in boarding house drug raid

Australia's most expensive school has conducted sweeping drug searches of its senior campus boarder dormitories after reports from students of illicit drug use.

In a letter addressed to parents of Geelong Grammar School's Corio campus, Steve Church – head of campus - advised parents that the school had conducted "comprehensive searches of the Senior School boarding houses" while students were on a mid-term semester break.

The letter indicates that the school was tipped off by students who came forward with "concerns about illicit drug use".

One of four students suspended by Geelong Grammar has spoken to 9News saying he feels betrayed.

"They've gone through my stuff and even taken items that aren't illicit, like my prescription ADHD medication, Ritalin," he said.

According to Geelong Grammar's 2019 fee schedule, a year boarding at the Corio senior school campus – years 10, 11 and 12 – costs an eye-watering $70,240.

The prestigious school boasts an alumni which include the likes of Prince Charles, Rupert Murdoch and Portia de Rossi. UK's new Prime Minister Boris Johnson was once a teacher at the school.

Students were addressed by school principal, Rebecca Cody, in an assembly in which she informed the cohort why the school had undertaken the search.

The school has been contacted for comment.
