Foundation created in Melb teen's name

The family of murdered Melbourne teenager Patrick Cronin has set up an anti-violence foundation in his name, asking for donations in lieu of flowers at his funeral.

The 19-year-old died in hospital on Monday after he was punched on Saturday night at a bar in Diamond Creek.

Patrick's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, at Whitefriars Catholic College, followed by a burial at Eltham Cemetery.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pat Cronin Foundation.

The foundation was created by his family "in his honour to raise awareness and education to stop this happening again and prevent further harm".

Applications to make it a charity and donations tax deductible are being made.

Patrick played for the Lower Plenty Bears in the Northern Football League and this weekend is the first round since his death.

The NFL says a minute's silence will be held before all games across the weekend and players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect.

Andrew William Lee, 33, has been charged with Patrick's murder, while his brother Brendan Lee, 37, has been charged with threatening a witness.

Both have been remanded in custody.
