Last Melbourne made Fords auctioned in Vic

Ford's last Australian built cars have been auctioned off, a week after ceasing local production in Melbourne.

The last saleable Ford Falcon XR6, Falcon Ute, Territory and the limited edition Winter White Sprint Falcon XR6 were auctioned in Melbourne on Saturday for a combined $353,000.

They came off the Geelong and Broadmeadows production lines last week, just before Ford called time on 92 years of local production.

The Winter White Sprint Falcon, one of only 500 built, was the most coveted, selling for more than double its regular retail price at $122,000.

All four vehicles went to Victorian homes, with John Bradbury from Sunbury Ford buying the ute and the Winter White Sprint, while Boronia local Mark Jeffs took the Falcon and the Territory.

The proceeds of the Winter White Sprint will go towards Geelong charity Give Where You Live to help the local community.

The rest of the money will go to support student robotics programs in Broadmeadows and Geelong.

The final non-saleable cars will be kept by Ford and displayed at enthusiast events before being loaned to museums in Victoria.

Ford will continue to employ about 2000 staff in Australia, including 1100 designers and engineers.
