Not a Good Friday: Five hurt in separate Melbourne nightclub attacks

Good Friday is traditionally meant to be a Christian holiday - instead five Melbournians have been injured in separate late-night attacks.

Two people were attacked with knives and three were assaulted in two incidents outside Melbourne nightclubs, during the early hours of this morning.

Two bouncers were punched at a nightclub on Swanston Street after two revellers were ejected from the venue.

Both offenders ran off but one later returned and stabbed a third club staff member in the back.

The offender then fled for a second time.

The injured 29-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the two bouncers also received minor facial injuries.

Another bouncer was slashed with a knife and beaten during a separate incident outside a Queen Street nightclub several hours later.

The security guard was cut across the leg after refusing a man entry, police said.

Police said the alleged attacker was also injured after a scuffle with the bouncer and several of his colleagues.

He is now in the Alfred Hospital with serious injuries, but is in a stable condition.

Police today released CCTV footage of the alleged stabbing and said they were now on the hunt for two men.

One of the men is described as having a solid build, with dark hair and was wearing a blue/purple shirt, jeans and joggers at the time of the attack.

The second man is described as also having a solid build, about 180cm tall with brown hair and was wearing a maroon t-shirt and dark-coloured pants.
