Fire rips through Melbourne restaurant

A fire that ripped through the top storey of a Melbourne restaurant that was previously the scene of an alleged bikie shoot-out is not being treated as suspicious.

The MFB was called to the New Europe restaurant in High Street, Preston, about midnight to find the top floor of the two-storey building ablaze.

There was no one inside the building at the time, but firefighters did evacuate neighbouring residents.

Eight shots were fired into the ceiling of the restaurant in October last year, and two men were charged with numerous weapons offences.

During a court appearance in December, police alleged one of them was the Sergeant at Arms of a Comancheros outlaw motorcycle gang chapter and was the one who fired the shots.
