Fire bans for parts of Vic on Monday

A total fire ban has been declared in parts of southern Victoria on Monday.

The bans will take effect from midnight in the South West and Central regions.

This includes the surf coast, where a major bushfire near Wye River is still burning out of control, metropolitan Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Hamilton.

The forecast for the South West region, where fire danger will be severe on Monday, is for hot and dry conditions with fresh northwesterly winds ahead of an afternoon or evening southwesterly change.

Temperatures will range from the high 20Cs near the coast to the high 30Cs in the north on Monday.

Fire danger will peak on Tuesday with severe fire danger forecast in all western and central regions of Victoria except the North East and East Gippsland, where fire danger will be very high.
