FEDERAL ELECTION WEEK ONE RECAP FOR VICTORIA

MONDAY

Victorian battler Duncan Storrar became a media target during Monday night's Q&A program on the ABC, when he questioned Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer about the fairness of raising the tax-free threshold for high income earners.

Labor's Melbourne candidate Sophie Ismail caused the first headache for Labor's asylum seeker policy when she told Fairfax: "I have concerns about boat turnbacks. I don't think they should be on the table."

TUESDAY

It was reported the Greens and the Liberal party were negotiating a preference deal to end Labor's stranglehold on the Melbourne seat of Batman. The story sparked debate on preferencing and a possible hung parliament.

WEDNESDAY

Racist graffiti scrawled on the front window of federal minister Josh Frydenberg's Melbourne office.

Tanya Plibersek was in Geelong to announce a Labor government will fund $2 million to an initiative to generate jobs for the Geelong region.

THURSDAY

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull toured marginal seats in Melbourne, talking economic plan for jobs and growth, and Labor's ties with the unions, especially in light of the likely disendorsement of a union-backed candidate in Western Australia.

PM visited Frankston in Melbourne's outer southern fringe. Located in the Liberal seat of Dunkley, being vacated by former small business minister Bruce Billson.

Mr Turnbull visted a brewery on the Mornington Peninsula - which becomes eligible for an enterprise tax cut under the government's budget measures.

Mr Turnbull was quizzed in Melbourne after he named in the Panama Papers as a former director of Star Technology Services Limited, a company incorporated by tax haven law firm Mossack Fonseca.

FRIDAY

Treasurer Scott Morrison in Melbourne to attend the Higgins 200 breakfast, a fundraiser for Liberal MP Kelly O'Dwyer. Also attending was Howard government treasurer and former member for Higgins Peter Costello.

The Nationals annouce they will contest the federal seat of Ballarat for the first time in three decades, with local councillor and businessman Paul Tatchell to run.
